UKAS Calibrated Incubator, Vaccine Fridge & Freezer Thermometer

A digital thermometer for vaccine fridges in pharmacies, GP surgeries, hospitals and medical labs to help comply with vaccine storage regulations.

The TMS FridgiTherm is a digital thermometer designed for monitoring the temperature of incubators, vaccine fridges and freezers that are used in pharmacies, hospitals and medical labs to help comply with regulations. Since it is critical that vaccines are stored at the correct temperature, typically between +2°C and +8°C, constant monitoring and the accuracy of measures are very important.

“Vaccines cost the NHS around £200 million a year. The loss of only one dose of Pediacel vaccine a month in each general practice would cost an estimated £4 million a year.” Protocol for ordering, storing and handling vaccines – March 2014, Public Health England

This thermometer is offered to meet the specific requirements of the Green Book guide for the Storage, Distribution and Disposal of Vaccines (Chapter 3). The Guide requires that the fridge must have an independent thermometer to monitor the Current, Maximum and Minimum temperatures. The Green Book guide to the Regulations state quite clearly that the thermometer should be independent of the fridge display, should be battery powered and requires regular servicing and annual calibration.

“At least one maximum-minimum thermometer that is independent of mains power should be used (as well as any integrated thermometer), so temperatures can be measured in the event of electricity loss. The maximum-minimum thermometer should be calibrated annually to confirm that it is giving accurate readings.” Green Book Chapter 3 v2_1 Page 28 – June 2013, Public Health England

As TMS Europe is an UKAS (ISO 17025) accredited calibration laboratory we offer each unit complete with calibration at 4 points of temperature included in the price, giving certified accuracy. Each unit’s calibration certificate is a legal certificate of metrology and is traceable to national and international standards.

It features a min/max function that stores the lowest and highest temperatures measured over a period of time and this can be reset after they have been logged (this is normally done daily). An alarm function can be configured to sound an audible alarm if the fridge temperature has gone outside the user’s set limits.

The thermometer consists of the main body with display, that mounts on the outside of the fridge and the temperature sensor probe on a thin lead that goes inside the fridge (normally around the edge of the door). The probe fits into a mounting bracket that can be attached to a shelf, and is designed to give a representative measurement of the vaccines’ temperature, without being disturbed by normal use (e.g. open and closing the door).
